Residents of Old Wilmington want to purchase Paul Hill Sculpture

WECT 6 News
Reported by Claire Simms

WILMINGTON, NC -- The Residents of Old Wilmington (ROW) are trying to help art put down roots in downtown Wilmington.

The organization is putting up half of the money needed to purchase a sculpture called "Southern Hospitality." The sculpture by Paul Hill features two Venus Fly Traps in metal and glass.

The piece was originally installed in front of the Post Office on Front Street as part of Creative Wilmington's "Pedestrian Art" project, but the project is ending and "Southern Hospitality" is slated to be taken away.

ROW is offering to pay $4,500, but need donations to cover the rest.

For information on where to donate, visit www.rowilmington.org. Or mail a check to ROW, P.O. Box 1862, Wilmington, NC 28401.
